The limiting belief stopping us from taking deep breaths
Share
Fair ⚠️ we are cutting the bullshit here.
Believe it or not, the human mind have an underlying belief that we become what we breathe in.
Different versions of this belief are:
You become the people you surround yourself with.
Or
Our environment shapes the person we become.
So now what?
Yes, it’s true but we are not limited to this belief.
If our goal is balance or peace, the antidote is embracing both passivity and proactivity in our life.
Being proactive in a non ideal situation is about taking in whatever is around us without judgement and responding to it.
The proactive energy builds an active energy within us and we can feel it loudly in our body. Imagine yourself doing well in a stressful interview. That’s proactive energy you are feeling.
On the contrary, being Passive is a vacation vibe, where everything is set out to our personal idea of perfection and taking it all in relaxes our body.
What does this have to do with the breath, you ask?
Anxiety is a result of mind-resistance to our environment. Our mind is convinced we should be somewhere passive and the mind realises that we are not.
Our next step is to ask ourselves, do I need to be passive or proactive now?
Or in other words, is this situation important to my life?
Most probably you already know you have to face the situation to better your life.
But the anxiety can be crippling.
- [ ] The way to remove this feeling would be acceptance. Accept that you cannot have the dessert until dinner is done.
- [ ] Using the word proactive to get ready for it
Now expanding and coming full circle on the breath.
When we are anxious, we tend to take short breaths and we are advised to breathe deep instead.
The reason this simple and profoundly effective solution seems so hard to follow is because of this.
Our mind is convinced that our environment has an element or more which is not good for us, and breathing is the basics of getting the energy around us into our system.
Read that again.
That’s the belief that creates anxiety.
Like many has said before, fear is good because it helps us to see what is not good for us. We need to expand on this; fear doesn’t give the right answer - Fear is a question.
It indicates that there could be potential danger ( based on collective experiences of the world), (also remember we are unique and we have unique requirements).
Fear tells us we have a choice to make.
Whether or not to reactive proactively to the said situation. Another way to look at fear is: Fear wakes us from passivity and shows us that this is a situation we need to be proactive in.
We can always choose the experiences we need to evolve through. And fear is like a suburban mom yelling at you to get up to go to school.
(We are using this anecdote to soften the scary image of fear and not to reinforce any stereotypes).
Working on self-worth, demystifying the idea of fear, breathing fully, facing the ‘small’ fears which come up as practice are ways to train during our passive times.
The good news is with every time, anxiety becomes smaller and smaller.
Our advice is to always look to treat mental health issues like physical wounds.
And
We are not in heaven. We are hear to eve love as a human race.
Think of yourself as an avenger in training.
